Grenfell Memorial Garden
A living memorial
Mike McMahon Studio has proposed a vertical forested tower on the site of the Grenfell Tower fire. The project is a living memorial to those who were lost, transforming the site into a green civic landmark for remembrance, reflection, and renewal.
Design and gardens
The tower is wrapped in layers of planting and community gardens. Terraces, walkways, and quiet gardens are woven throughout, creating spaces for reflection, gathering, and community use. The design serves both as a tribute and as a shared public environment.
Continuity and memory
The Grenfell Vertical Forest is designed not as an ending, but as a continuation. The structure preserves memory within nature and ensures Grenfell remains visible, vital, and alive in the city’s collective consciousness.
Architecture and resilience
Through this project, the studio explores how architecture and landscape can support healing, remembrance, and community resilience.
